Lempira Day: learning the history of Honduras
With traditional clothing, dances, Honduran food and presentations, students learned about the Lenca people and the history of the country.
Every 20 July, Honduras remembers Lempira, the Lenca leader who resisted the Spanish conquest. At Coral Springs, the day became a different kind of history lesson.
Students came in traditional clothing, performed dances, tasted typical Honduran food and gave presentations about the Lenca, one of the Indigenous peoples of Honduras, and about the country’s history.
The youngest children, in preschool, also took part in costume.
