Why go

Cerro Azul Meámbar National Park, known as PANACAM, protects the mountains that rise next to Lake Yojoa. It has trails through cloud forest, viewpoints over the lake and hidden waterfalls, and it is one of the best places in the country for birdwatching. Inside the park there is a lodge with rooms, a restaurant and a camping area.

Don’t miss

  • The cloud-forest trails, with waterfalls and crystal-clear rivers.
  • The viewpoints over Lake Yojoa.
  • Birdwatching, best early in the morning.

Tips for your visit

  • Bring warm clothes: the mountains are cooler than the valley.
  • Some trails are steep; choose your route according to your fitness.
  • If you want to stay at the lodge, book in advance.
