Why go

Honduras has hot springs in several regions. Some are bathing resorts with pools at different temperatures, and others are natural pools by a river, with steam rising between the rocks. They are perfect for a restful weekend or as an add-on to another trip.

Options depending on where you go

  • La Pita (Puerto Cortés, Cortés): the closest to San Pedro Sula, about 20 minutes from downtown Puerto Cortés.
  • Azacualpa (San Pedro Zacapa, Santa Bárbara): natural pools by the river, about 2 h 20 min from San Pedro Sula; the last stretch is a dirt road.
  • Luna Jaguar (Copán Ruinas, Copán): hot springs in the middle of the forest, less than an hour from town; ideal for your weekend in Copán.
  • Aguas Termales Presidente (Gracias, Lempira): pools at several temperatures a few kilometers from downtown Gracias.
  • Sulaco (Yoro): hot springs in the south of the department of Yoro, farther from the schools.

Tips for your visit

  • Check opening hours and prices before you go: they change often.
  • Bring sandals and a towel, and don’t stay too long in the hottest water.
